Jason Marquis

The 28-year old right-hander signed a 3-year deal with the Cubs in December worth 21 million dollars. This was a questionable signing because in 2006, Marquis had, what some people would call, an off year. He posted an ERA of 6.02, though only two years ago he had his ERA in the mid 3’s. Even though Marquis is a starter, this signing will also benefit our bullpen. Jason Marquis is an inning eater and that should help keep the pen refreshed. One of the reasons why Marquis’s ERA is so high is because Tony LaRussa (the Cardinals manager) left him in there a few games where he was absolutely getting shellacked just so he could save the bullpen. Hopefully, Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild, can fix Marquis’s mechanics and get him to where he was just a few years back.
