Cubs win their sixth of the spring
This was a good fundamental game for the Cubs. They played good defense ( no errors and an OF assist by Matt Murton at the plate)and they took five walks. The downfall of this game was that they hit into 3 double-plays (Theriot, Barrett, and Colvin). The young guys were pretty much the offense in today’s game. Jake Fox hit his second homerun this spring and second in as many games with a pinch-hit three runs homerun. Tyler Colvin added two hits, a stolen base and an RBI as he continues to play well during the Spring.
The pitching also did well today. Jason Marquis is slowly starting to show me that he is capable of coming back from a horrendous 2006 season. Wood, Dempster and Walrond all threw scoreless innings, while Sean Gallagher gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in one inning. The most impressive performance is Rocky Cherry as he recorded his 3rd save of the Spring with 3 strikeouts, as he kepts his ERA at zero.
