Big Z v. Cubs (Round 1)

As Jim Hendry and Barry Praver, Carlos Zambrano’s agent, try to negotiate a deal by Tuesday, Carlos Zambrano sits back and waits for his phone to ring. Unfortunately, if they do not get a deal done by tomorrow, the two sides will go to trial for an arbitration hearing. Zambrano, who earned 6.5 million dollars last season, is looking to raise his price up by 9 million, so he would be making 15.5 million. If the two sides do indeed go to trial tomorrow and the Cubs win, Carlos Zambrano will most likely be angry and that might alter his decision to sign to a long term deal with the club; If the Cubs lose the case, Carlos Zambrano will most likely be pretty happy … and if he is happy, then he is not angry … See how this works? I think that the best case scenario would be for the Cubs to somehow reach an agreement before the trial on Tuesday, that way we know both sides are on the same page as each other, which will futher increase the chances of Big Z signing for a long-term deal.
