Not Over

Maybe it’s the kool-aid talking, but this season is not over, even though ONE of our star players is hurt… One is the keyword in that sentence. We have other stars that have the ability to carry this team. Aramis Ramirez has been slumping, but I expect him to pick it up because he knows that we need him here and Derrek Lee has found a little power surge lately. We need these guys to pick it up, while the role players do their part as well.

Also, if you remember in 2003, Corey Patterson was a big factor in the first half. He was hitting the ball very well and his numbers pretty much mirrored Soriano’s. Then after trying to beat out a ground ball he injured himself and that put him out for the season. Times looked glum, but we traded for Kenny Lofton. Lofton was an excellent centerfielder with speed and most of all he was a spark plug. Now, the trading deadline has past, but we can still add a player. That player is Felix Pie. He has all of the tools and now is the time for him to be called up. He is the type of player that has the potential to be great and will be a spark for this team. Some are saying that he could be a Curtis Granderson type player and I think if he plays out the rest of the season, that he could be the type of player Lofton was for this club.

The Lineup:

Theriot-SS

Pie-CF

Lee-1B

Ramirez-3B

Floyd-LF

DeRosa-2B

Jones-RF

Kendall-C

Not a powerful lineup, but we really have not been putting up power numbers anyway . Go Cubs. It’s not over!
