Difficulty for Big Z
No, this article is not about Zambrano’s contract. This article is about Carlos Zambrano’s continuous struggles on opening day. The last two opening days Zambrano only lasted 4 and 2/3 innings, but the Cubs supported him by scoring 16 runs. Not this time. Zambrano gave up 6 hits, 5 walks, 1 HBP and 5 ER in five innings pitched, while the Cubs scored just one unearned run. Granted, some of the balls that were called were a bit iffy. My main concern is that Zambrano gets too anxious for opening day and that he just gets more adrenaline than he can handle. The question that I have to ask myself is “Can Carlos Zambrano pitch the big game?” Let’s hope we figure out the answer in October.
