Cubs Win.

That’s right. The Cubs win. You may have to read the title a few times to comprehend what I have just written, but yes … the Cubs finally won a game. The hitters hit well, the pitchers pitched well, and heck, the fielders even fielded well. Jacque Jones had 4 hits, while DeRosa and Kendall each had three of their own. Fontenot made a sparkling play as he made a sliding catch in foul territory after a long run and Matt Murton did his impression of Alfonso Soriano as he had a solo homerun and an outfield assist. Felix Pie was also great as he made his return from AAA. He scorched two doubles and was very tempted to go for some triples.

Ted Lilly worked around 5 walks as he went 6 innings while giving up 2 runs. It was a struggl, but he got through it. Wood, Marmol and Howry were excellent in the bullpen as they pitched 3 scoreless innings as they struck out 5. Kerry Wood has pitched very well since his return from the DL and it looks like he is really going to help this bullpen and is a great improvement over Will Ohman. Carlos Marmol looks like he is back after a few rough patches and Howry has been streaky all year and right now he is on one of his better streaks.

In other notes, Derrek Lee keeps on struggling as he went 0-5 and his average is down to .316. Well, now the Cubs are 1/2 game out behind the Brewers and they really needed this win today. It was nice to see the players actually smile and be happy and I think they now realize that they can win without Soriano.
