Today, the Cubs claimed Scott Podsednik off of waivers from the White Sox. Now, the White Sox have the right to trade him, release him or just take him back off of the waiver wire. Pods would be a decent pickup for the club, considering he is hitting over .300 against lefties, and that is something that the Cubs are in desperate need of. He also hits well in the day time so that is going to be big considering most games in Wrigley are during the afternoon. This still does not help the team’s need of power, but he has good speed, defense and hits for a decent average. He can supposedly be a clubhouse cancer, but he can be a great teammate as long as the team is winning.

If the Cubs were to add Pods to this lineup that would add some postseason experience to this team as he hit well during the playoffs of 2005, including a walk-off homerun, when the White Sox won the World series. I am not sure how this can really help the team since we already have a surplus of outfielders in Patterson, Pie, Murton, Jones, Floyd, and Soriano when he comes back, but I am guessing we would send Patterson down. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out, but it definitely would not hurt to add his experience to the club.
