Big Z signed!
Signing Carlos Zambrano would have been the biggest goal going into this off-season, but Jim Hendry already has that crossed out on his list. Now that Big Z has his contract, I think that will pump him up for this stretch run and his mind will be clear. He has got his money, now let’s get him a championship! The deal is for 5 years worth 91.5 million dollars with an option for a 6th year, depending on how well he pitches. This year Zambrano has 14 wins and a 3.86 ERA and that is with a terrible start to the season. Over his career, Zambrano is 78-51 with a 3.37 ERA and would have been the best free agent on the market when the season ended. He could have gotten a lot of money elsewhere, but he took a hometown discount for the team he loves, the city he loves, and the fans he loved.
